Default I'm slow.

heres the deal i have a shit computer but the thing is i have absolutely no money at all to upgrade. here are my specs:

Intel p4 1.6ghz(i didnt choose it)

256mb of RAM(ugh)

extremely fried nvidia 6800le(bad oc experience)

soundblaster 24bit soundcard or onboard audio (too lazy to change switches for headset and speakers)

10/100mb nic

My problem is extremely long load times, now i been playing this game for a good 10 months now and i've dealt with it, but it is getting pretty damn old, all im wondering is if there was a cfg file i could play with to maybe quicken the load times in between towns or somehow tweak the game for a more optimized experience. The point it is: its playable, but loads slow. Slow load times and impatience doesnt go hand in hand so if someone could suggest me something other than a new computer, if ur gonna do that send me the money to buy it otherwise thx but no thx.

Dont think gw has an ini file does it? Its just a big assed dat file

its definately the ram causing the problem..

Is there no way you could save £50 and get 512 upgrade? that would be a decent improvement

Before you start the game, use task manager to close everything you dont NEED down..

On my old pc (also has 256ram) i use msconfig before playing and i make sure nothing loads when i turn the computer on.. and it makes a difference, pm me if ya need to know how to do it and ill give ya detailed instructions.

I almost fried my 9800pro (as if they dont get hot enough?) by overclocking it... fun!

Yeah, you need more RAM. Faster CPU wouldn't hurt but the RAM needs help first.

i'm guessing it could be your video card you said it is fried and most likely its the 3D rendering core thats fried and so when it loads 3D graphfix and stuff it will take a long time i had the same problem with a Old 9800 pro everything work just fine in 2d but as soon as i tried to play a game or anything 3d it would play it but take a long time to load and also more RAM would really help i think the CPU is actully pretty good compaired to a friend of mine that plays GW on a 800 Mhz with a 9800 pro and actlly it runs pretty good

Exactly how is your video card "fried"? Do you have to heavily underclock it for it to work properly?

But listen to Meols- you NEED more memory! Windows XP by itself uses almost 200MB (sometimes more), so almost all of your RAM is used up before you even load the game! 512MB sticks are extremely cheap these days, and just bumping your system up to 768MB would make a WORLD of a difference. Your computer is fine for playing Guild Wars, other than the skimpy amount of system meory.

Wouldnt work...

If anything it would make it slower as its dumping more in the page file, then the computer has to collect it and it makes the loading process alot slower since its swapping more infor via the bus, and since its not the fastet cpu it wouldnt handle it well..

More memory, save for it first. I had the same type prob as u before since my cpu is only an amd xp 1800+. With 256 ram GW ran well, like crap. Saved a lil cash 512 upgrade, ran 2X smoother, aded 512 more...Flawless And if your vid cards fried....save some more cash and just get like a 5500 Fx nvidia card, Runs Gw just fine, looks nice cost 40 bucks? or less.
